Why Your Pitcher Should be Practicing Mindful Movement

With the amazing growth in the game there is more and more young girls getting the opportunity to watch more WOMENS softball on TV and with that comes, the "Little League Syndrome." This is something that we have probably seen more so in baseball. For example, you are watching a MLB game on a Sunday afternoon and your 5 year old starts mimicking what the big leaguers do. Whether it's a high stride leg up or a fancy little do dab they do after they swing...either way by now I'm sure you have witnessed a little kid do something like this.

Unfortunately, with increase of growth in the game also comes the "peanut galleries" opinion and an emphasis on RESULTS based well, results. This is "Results based ceiling" is based off of what everyone else is doing.

To many people that are surrounding the young pitcher are comparing them to D1 or even Professional Softball pitchers / athletes whose bodies are built very differently than a 10, 12, 14 and yes even a 16u pitcher's body. And yet expecting them to throw the strikes all the time REGARDLESS of their mechanics, strength level and the wear and tear that what an 18-year-old and up body is able to do and a 10, 12, 14 and yes even a 16u players body cannot do due to the level of their strength.

THIS HAS TO STOP! We as a pitcher's support team (Coach, Parent) have to want better for them, then what everyone else is doing.

We have to learn how to support them where they are at in order to get to where they will be.

Are you ready to start supporting your pitcher OWN where she is now in order to OWN where she will be?

Right now, KVS has LIMITED spots available for LIVE Online Training!

One of my favorite things to ask a coach that seeks me out about advice on how to help their pitchers about their "weird mechanics" that maybe the coach themself knows somethings off, but they don't know yet...let's take a broken ankle drag for example...which starts with a weak pull/plant...which starts with a negative load.

The biggest downside I witness front row are coaches that could care less about how their pitchers move, they just care about speed and strikes.

I love asking them this in a supportive way because at the end of the day I want to EDUCATE as many coaches as possible about mechanics that will feed into their pitchers reducing injury and having a healthy LONG pitching career...mentally, physically and emotionally!

"Are you going to pay for the surgery that she is going to need in the future because you aren't educating yourself in order to educate her on what throwing with healthy mechanics looks and feels like?"

They usually respond with, "I thought she was doing everything correctly because she throws strikes." (results based) vs growth based

Then I say, "well it's a good thing you reached out" (LOL!)

At the end of the day, you can say what you want to say about healthy pitching mechanics, your opinions are none of my business, but Womens Fastpitch Pitching, literally is my business!

You may be asking yourself, if she was throwing strikes why would a coach even contact you? Well, they tend to reach out, Parents too when their pitcher has a decrease in her consistency and confidence. This happens when they go through growth spurts and their body is like wait you can't move me like that.

Yes, you should be practicing full pitching speeds and being explosive as far as your body goes, you need to practice explosiveness but first...you also should be working on mastering the micro mechanics that feed the MACRO mechanics. Then take your "mindful movements" and put them into practice.

Still don't see the importance of Mindful Movement?

Another example I can give you is doing your TEE work!

Keep it Simple and do the work that you are avoiding doing and watch the magic...
